"Between Earth and Water"

17-21:00 Art Studio Cale Punta Calera vis-a-vis Hotel Playa Calera

Techniques:

The paintings are painted with earth pigments from various locations, as well as the semiprecious stones malachite and epidote, green earth from Germany, and ancient Egyptian blue. These are inorganic, mineral, finely ground pigments applied to canvas and paper using a glaze technique of egg tempera, resin, and oil. Using this ancient technique allows me to influence the subtle nuances of the color scheme. Often, an elaborate underpainting of Siena Ochre lies beneath the expensive pigments of the semiprecious stones.

Sculptures:

The warm generosity of La Gomera in stone, water, wind, wood, and sunlight refreshes each day and serves as an energy and meaning for creating something new. From the very first years of living in La Gomera, the form, color, and weight of the initial parts of the palm branches captivated me. Each of them evokes a human or animal face for me. This part of the palm branch is called " Takhalageh." I have named this collection "Faces of Takhalageh." To extract these faces from the heart of the wood, I use hand tools such as a knife, chisel, saw, and sandpaper, and sign my works with my Kurdish name "RoĊ½"

Theme:

The place where two elements meet to confront their opposites. They challenge each other, they shape and form each other, they enrich and stimulate each other. The coast, the place where people rest and at the same time recharge their batteries. This boundary is fed by two opposing qualities and thus takes on a completely new, third component. I have spent most of the last few years on different coasts such as La Gomera, Ibiza, Spain, Crete and Croatia. Each coast has its own unique energy, which is reflected in the shape of the waves, the color of the water, the shape of the coast, the stones and the sand. Even the clouds reflect the shape of the waves. The series "Between Earth and Water" shows the artistic exploration of this theme.
